Inquirer; Chamber Support Gives Tax Reform Big Boost
The Philadelphia Inquirer issued a major editorial challenge to City Council concluding, "Philadelphia has a strong mayor form of government, but this is one time it's up to City Council to be the strong voice. It should vote next week for the full tax package; a veto-proof margin would be nice." (Full Editorial) This comes just after the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the voice of business in the Philadelphia area, made a major statement in support of tax reform. The statement, and its impact on the tax reform debate are discussed in the Philadelphia Inquirer (article) and Philadelphia Daily News (article and editorial). Tax reform now faces its first major trial on Monday, May 24th when City Council will take its first vote to pass the bills out of committee or kill the push for tax reform.
