The short answer is yes." Full column. The Philadelphia Daily News (May 10) included an editorial, Council scorecard and cartoon. Philadelphia Inquirer article (May 9): "Both sides braced for tax-cut hearing." Full story. Inquirer editorial (May 8): "Council members should pass the tax-reform plan before them." Full editorial. Daily News article (May 8): "City Council members lately have found their in-baskets overwhelmed with faxes and e-mails from voters demanding support for tax reform legislation." Full story. Daily News editorial (May 7): "We want Council to move the 13 tax reform bills and pass them." Full editorial. Tax Reform In (Sometimes Ribald) Verse...
There's a now well-off family of four
That lives in Philly no more
To the south they fled
To avoid being bled
By the taxes that rendered them poor
In Philly the problem is tax,
Too much on our wages and shacks,
If for reform you vote ‘aye’,
Then Philadelphians will fly,
Once we get this tax beast off our backs!
There once was a nice family,
That lived in the City of Philly,
The father screamed, "This I vow!
"The mayor reforms taxes now!
"Or we move to New Jersey!"
There was a man from Nantucket
Who never got taxed on his bucket
He moved to Philly
And was taxed willy nilly
So he moved home and said f*** it.
We all love Philly, it's true
There's so much to see and to do
But if you were to ask us
We'd say that the taxes
Aren't fair for me or for you
There once was a man from Peru
Who wanted to start business anew
He came looking in Philly,
But taxes scared him silly
So off to other cities he flew.
