Today (March 11, 2004), Mayor Street's 21st Century Review Forum recommended that the city's elected leadership adopt the Tax Reform Commission’s recommendations.
Mayor Street's 21st Century Review Forum endorsed the vision of the Tax Reform Commission and recommended that the city's elected leadership adopt the Tax Reform Commission’s vision and major recommendations.
The Forum, which was charged by Mayor Street to look at the government of Philadelphia and find ways to improve it, reported its findings in advance of the Mayor's March 18th Budget Address.
In its final report to the Mayor and the people of Philadelphia, the Forum declared, "The City should move quickly to adopt the major recommendations of the Tax Reform Commission - even if expenditures have to be reduced to cover the initial tax revenue shortfall. The mayor's very important quality of life strategies will not have the desired impacts or be sustainable in the long run in the absence of fundamental tax reform."
